"If Chuck Schumer would've done a better job I wouldn't have had the opportunity to support a garbage candidate and therefore all of this is his fault" might be the most causally attenuated line of reasoning I've ever read.

I don't know much about Traister's background but in tossing Schumer's name into the mix, she's just grasped onto one of the scenario's designated villains (how DID she miss blaming the DNC and AIPAC?), who did not dictate who should be a candidate and did not try to prevent Platner from running (maybe he should have). He's as entitled to endorse a candidate as Liz Warren or Ro Khanna. Right now I feel like Schumer is the most unfairly maligned target in politics, blamed endlessly by performative progressives for things he can't do. I honestly think a lot of it is that he's boring (and he really is: one of the dullest speakers I've ever heard). I get yelled at for mentioning this, but Progressive Punch rates him the 10th most progressive member of the Senate — and the sainted Bernie Sanders is #13.

I don't know any Democrat who supported him. Only the "progressives".

Democrat "leadership" was pretty much bullied into it after his ascendance had been sanctified by these morally bankrupt "progressives".

We could kick them out entirely if more liberals were paying attention...instead of yammering "Vote blue no matter who" or "I like his policies."

"I like his policies" is a way to deny that they were infatuated with his personal charm and charisma – which they were. Mills' actual policies IN ACTION were as progressive as Platner's theoretical ones

Totally agree. It was 100% a vibes thing … which frankly makes it even worse

When I hear people talking about that kind of “charisma”, I hear narcissism and maybe even Dark Triad.

Even in college, I could’ve taken this brute’s measure in 10 seconds. Belligerent thug.. Bellicose drunk. Dysregulated and lacking in all higher order brain functions.

The women that went for him seem attracted to bad boys but want to feel righteous about it. Also, they’re just not very smart or informed.

In high school, his career goal was “killing people.”. He didn’t go to college, despite coming from wealth. He wore a Nazi symbol and lied about it. He was a Blackwater mercenary and he never held another job since.

Even if he was as chaste as the driven slush, he is still a sociopath. That was obvious from the get go, imho.

Platner fits well into the GOP. His misdeeds and his handling of them are emblematic of the leaders of current regime.
