Just a quick reminder that I’ll be hosting a Zoom Chat today with Matt Glassman, who knows pretty much everything there is to know about congressional procedure. We’ll be talking about the current deadlock in the US House of Representatives over the next Speaker of the House — and what might come next. If you’ve been following the Speaker fight on Twitter over the past few days, you know that Matt has quickly become a go-to source in helping decipher this current situation, so I’m thrilled he’ll be joining me today. It should be a great conversation!
Here’s the link! See you at 12:30.
What’s Going On
Here’s the latest on the Speaker fight from the New York Times, Politico, and the Washington Post. The bottom line is that McCarthy is inching closer to 218 votes and the speakership, but a) he still doesn’t have the votes, and b) it’s far from clear as to whether he can get them.
Those Republicans leading the fight against McCarthy were the same ones egging on Donald Trump to contest the 2020 election.
US job growth remains solid.
If 6 moderate Republicans decided to vote for Jefferies could he be elected house speaker?
Re: Speaker voting.
The group opposing McArthey, I presume you refer to the lunatic fringe of the Republican Party? Sounds like an episode of Dumb and Dumber.
