The dichotomy between what federal office holders ethically should do versus what is politically convenient could perhaps best be handled by making ALL congressional and executive positions (ie. POTUS) be a singular term of eg. 6 years, eliminating the concern for reelection consequences. This would also eliminate members of congress languishing in the necessity of laboring for the treasury of each political party. Why, they may then have time to actually read the legislation they are about to consider!
Unfortunately for Sasse, history will consider the GOP Senate as one...his name will be written in perpetuity alongside those of Gohmert and Hawley. The surgical distinctions he is attempting to construct in his haste to repair his reputation is as weak as his morality and as inconsistent as his fidelity to his oath of office. Kennedy often laughed about the scarcity of subjects for his book 'Profiles in Courage'. The inverse will be true for books written about the GOP of the Trump era.
