This was the cathartic article I needed this morning, this made me nearly giggle my rear off at the office:

Dear Michael: You are wrong. Trump is far from the dumbest fucking person on the face of the planet, and until you stop believing that, you'll continue to get everything wrong. He didn't get elected president twice, avoid all legal jeopardy, and become a multi mega billionaire by being so dumb that he lacks the mental acuity to stand upright. He is evil, racist, narcissistic, amoral, uninterested in anyone's welfare but his own, gross, tawdry, a serial sexual abuser, and incredibly petty, but he's not dumb. He's got you talking about tariffs while he's dismantling DoD, DoJ, the Treasury Department, and the Constitution. And he has most of us not knowing how to oppose him effectively. I'd say we're in serious trouble, and describing him as incredibly dumb, while cathartic to some, is incredibly ineffective.
Respectfully, I think one of the mistakes people make about Trump is the belief that there is some method to his madness. He's driven purely by ego and a constant need for validation and affirmation -- not intellect or well thought out plans. He pushed for tariffs because he became convinced they would be effective and it was a way to show strength. That's it. He's not trying to distract us. And we are in very serious trouble -- because we are led by an idiot and who cannot be reasoned with in a normal manner.
So this is an interesting point. I think he pushed for tariffs so he could get a win. I agree that he doesn't play three dimensional chess, but I do think there's a modicum of method to his madness. I think he wants to cripple the government so much that people feel compelled to let him do what he wants to "fix" it. He wants to sow enough chaos to do the same. It's not an accident that he's flooding the zone. It's not an accident that he's appointed incompetent loyalists to cabinet oosts. He's learned from Trump 1.0. I agree he's no genius and that he has no deep understanding of how government works, but he doesn't care. All he wants is to accrete and consolidate power.
