a good compromise would be to just eliminate the interest.

And give a small debt relief of the principal.. Use the money to give to universities to donate to students that qualify for college and can t afford it.... the cost of college is absurd!

I've been saying this for a while. I see a lot of thoughtful Democrats posting out the potential pitfalls of blanket cancellation, especially before passing a bill reforming how higher ed is financed. Many see that as a spoiled, demanding cohort who doesn't care about their younger brothers or sisters. So just imagine the resentment the GOP could stoke with this issue, contrasting it with what isn't being done for struggling parents and low-wage workers (never mind that Republicans don't want to do anything for them either.) When only 10% of Americans hold any college debt, I feel like the advocacy is better expended on something like restoring the child tax credits or making child care affordable so women can work.
